:: Jared Larson
- Crew Interview Part 3::
<<<PREVIOUS

Q: From what you've witnessed of the
shoot, what is this film about?
What will it be like?
Will it be any good?
What is it comparable to?
I think it will be this strange film that has funny odd parts but
also
serious sad parts, and i think the two dynamics work well with
each
other, i'm not sure what it will be like, but i think it will be
good, and i know
it will hold special meaning for me because i was there helping
out on it.
I read about how they made wet hot american summer in pennsylvania
at a
summer camp and it rained a lot, not that the two films are similar
i'm
still thinking in crew terms.
Q:
What's your best memory from the set?
we got to go to all these cool places and have a purpose to be
there and do
something strange there. it's as if we didn't belong in rivers,
water
treatment plants, rock quarries, demolition derbys, rollerskating
rinks, amusement parks, funeral homes, and all those other places
but we did
belong in our own weird way to be constantly passing through all
those cool locations.
also, napoleonia.
Q: What was your favorite scene to
shoot, or the best job you had to do on set?
it was great to be the DJ guy and make announcements to all the
kids at the
rollerskating rink, i liked pulling the phone away from shelia,
in the
trailer, i think i had the best job on the set.
Q: What was the greatest thing you
witnessed while spending a month in rural PA?
shelia's story from knoble's about the guy who thought that all
independant
films must be weird but also he got water in his butt crack and
he
didn't want to get swamp butt.
Q: Who was your favorite actor/actress
from the film?
they were really all good, it was so great to see each person bring
something new to the film, ken really made mr.turnipseed, shelia
played sadie with this great attitude that i thought worked, rich
did stool so
well and i just laugh when i think how he does that character, cory
was so
great with his physical actions when he played spank, jim played
curtis so
well and kept his cool around andy, will played donald with this
sad
sincerity that i thought really worked and made the character extrememly
interesting.
Q: What are your plans from here on
out?
oh geez, i'll be in pittsburgh until the summer taking community
college classes, then i'll start the Art institute of chicago next
fall, then
my band will get really famous and we'll tour then todd will be
shooting
"The Green Dot i thought i forgot" which will be great
to be a grip on, and
then i'll keep touring and then i'll help out when Kerry and Napoleon
shoot
their feature, and then when Charlie cline gets his film made, then
megan,
then when richie finally directs a feature. golly i think that would
be
pretty good,
Q: Do you think the film would be
better if we cast Ernest Borgnine and Paul Ruebens like we originally
planned to?
Neil Young should have played Barnard.
Q: Should Todd make another film, or just leave it at this
one and save his money?
I want todd to make more films, but i don't want todd to be poor,
i
want this film to make like $30 million and then he can make another
but
it's still made in the same manner that guatemalan handshake is,
and he gets
private money instead of studio money so it doesn't have to have
unions
or whatever.
Q: Thanks, Jared...anything else?
Any suggestions of other films to watch in the meantime?
I saw Songs from the second floor, 2 years ago and that was good,
witnessing craig and rich doing some weird bit about smoking emmanuel
lewis and then smoking urkel was totally insane, i cannot believe
that i was
the only person other than maybe lantz who heard it. maybe sheila
heard
some too, but i was right there and it was so great.
Also charlie cline was great
to meet because he's charlie, courtney was
awesome cause she kept asking me weird questions like if i was
an
introvert and then she thought that i thought of myself as a tough
guy which i
don't ever, and that was weird, and those personality tests were
very very
good.
Meghan who totally rocked
and kept communication going with walkie
talkies and who walked upstairs and chanted richie richie richie
with me and
courtney in front of richie's room.also things that are now different
are that
now i don't wake up when richie says
"jared we need to leave now" and i get
off the couch change my shirt put
on deoderant and then walk out the door
ready to move lights and stuff around.
Also i won the sandbag challenge.
thanks for letting me work on your film todd.
