:: Jared Larson - Crew Interview Part 1::

I sat down with Jared a month and a half after shooting wrapped to conduct this interview. Initially he was hesitant, but after a few candy bars and a salad, he was ready to go...

Q: How are you doing, Jared?

A: i'm pretty good, i've been staying with my friend peter lewis in pittsburgh for about a week, in like 3 days i'll move into the third floor of a house and i'll be staying there for a while. Life is interesting and i enjoy it.

Q: That's good. How is your family?

they are good, my sister is starting her first year of college at SUNY New Paltz, and she was all nervous but she loves and it and i'm happy because i know she already has a bunch of friends and they all hang and out and walk around town etc, my mom is doing okay i think, she's dealing with there being no kids in her house right now, but she's doing good, she's been taking training courses so she can volunteer at a woman's shelter called vera house. i am glad she is doing something she thinks is for a good cause. My dad is doing good, always traveling when he gets the chance and i think he's planning on moving to eugene, Oregon sometime soon, not sure really but he's good.

Q: Tell me a little bit about what you did on the shoot this July. Your position, your work...maybe a story or two from the set.

I was listed as an electric, so basically it was usually lights and stuff, but I think all the grips and electrics were helping on most of the same stuff, we'd find out from richie or kerry what we needed to get out of the grip truck (lights, dolly, track, stands, sandbags, c-stands, silks, tarps), and i'd occasionally help out moving the camera.

But mostly i would ask either kerry or richie what we needed for each shot, and when lights weren't being used to tried to see if anybody else needed something.one time i stopped a moving c-car from falling too far, and dylan described me stopping it as literally ridiculous when he saw me fly several feet trying to stop the momentum of the car.

The other time i had a tennis ball in one of my pockets and it was used as an eyeline for the young mr.turnipseed, young curtis, and young barnard to simulate a falling spank williams.

Q: Give us a bit of your background, inspirations and favorites.

um, i like music a lot, i made videos with my friends when i was in 3rd grade or so, and then it started up in 8th grade. then i took photography in 12th grade and that was really enjoyable and fun too once i got the hang of it.

Q: What were your initial feelings about joining this crew?

I wasn't really sure, at first i was kind of scared because i didn't even know what kind of people there would be and what it would
be like to work like crazy for a month, but before i left i suddenly got excited about actually doing something and just meeting a whole bunch of people at once and getting to know them. and then i did meet them and it turns out that they were all awesome people, and working like crazy for a month became not working for a month but hanging out together a lot all day and having fun and doing something together. i am glad i met everybody
and i had a lot of fun.
